10/25/2002

The "Draw Your World" contest begins. Schools in the local area will receive information packets on the contest. Information will also be available at the Lafayette Parish Library and the Natural History Museum.



10/16/2002

Vickie Hebert, a social studies educator from Northside High School, has been selected as GIS Day Acadiana's final speaker. She will be conducting a presentation on using GIS in the classroom.



09/26/2002

Greg Guirard, Photographer and Naturalist, has been scheduled as the guest speaker for GIS Day Acadiana 2002. His presentation will focus on the natural resources and beauty of the Atchafalaya Basin.



05/02/2002

The "color your world" contest has been finalized. Discussions about possible GIS Day characters occurred, to assist in being more of the public into the upcoming event.



03/08/2002

Representatives from the four founding organizations met to discuss additional sponsors and possible educational activities, to include a "color your world" contest for school children.



12/15/2001

Plans are under way for GIS Day 2002, an open house event to be held at the National Wetlands Research Center. An assessment of GIS Day 2001 was conducted to refine future events.



08/16/2001

NASA/UL Lafayette Regional Application Center and John E. Chance & Associates has joined forces with C. H. Fenstermaker & Associates and the USGS National Wetlands Research Center to sponsor the Acadiana GIS Day event for 2001. Representatives from the four entities met for the first time to discuss possible GIS Day plans.
