Description:
Abstract:
A set of 2,400 frames of color infrared aerial photography of the state of Louisiana at a scale 1:65,000 was acquired by NASA in 1995. Eleven hundred frames, approximately every other frame, were duplicated and then corrected for darkness before scanning into a digital format at 300 dpi with 100 percent resolution. Each 9x9-inch frame resulted in a digital file of approximately 26 Mb. Color balance and contrast were then enhanced using Adobe Photoshop. Vignetting around the edges of the photography was removed, reducing the size of each file to 23 megabytes. The final product is a 56 CD-ROM set of 1,100 photographic images in TIF format that covers the entire state of Louisiana.
Purpose:
Louisiana statewide CD-ROM aerial photography has many uses and benefits for a wide audience. Our primary purpose was to create a file of accessible data that could be used to map natural and cultural features, and for impact assessment and feasibility studies. The directory provides access to multiple scale photography that can be saved into other file formats. The information can then be printed using a plotter, printer, or other appropriate method and a third party program, e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Lview Pro, etc., that suits individual requirements.

Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
The attribute accuracy percents were obtained by using the Deductive Estimate method. The frames have been checked and verified against the index maps. Multiple staff participation accounts for approximately 96% accuracy with 4% error. The accuracy values expressed represent the final calculated accuracy estimate of the multiple steps of development from source photography to completed CD. The actual final value should be considered and average and perhaps conservative or over estimating the percent chance of error for areas in this CD set. The aerial photographs typically reflect conditions during the specific year and season when they were taken. In addition, there is a margin of error inherent in the use of aerial photographs.
Logical_Consistency_Report: N/A
Completeness_Report:
Data products were completed using systems and methodologies similar to those used by the United States Geological Survey during development of digital data. USGS does not provide enough specific accuracy and tolerance information to allow a specific calculation of the specific accuracy and tolerance for this data. The accuracy values expressed represent the final calculated accuracy estimate of the multiple steps of data development from source photography to the completed CD's. The actual final value should be considered an average and perhaps conservative or over estimating the percent change of error for areas in this CD set.
