| Unmanned Airborne
Vehicle Imagery for Domestic Emergency Response
& Natural Resource Survey: Deployment, Operations, & Applications
WORKSHOP
December 13-14, 2006
At
University of Louisiana at Lafayette
Regional Applications Center
Abdalla Hall
The UAV (Unmanned Airborne Vehicle(s) Workshop, sponsored and coordintated
by Federal, State, Academia, and local organizations will provide
a forum for evaluating the opportunity for awareness, understanding,
contribution, and advancing the deployment, processing, and applications
of UAV platforms and imagery data for first responders search &
rescue and various natural resource damage assessment surveys. As
a result from lessons learned of the historic impact of Hurricanes
Katrina and Rita in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas, August/September
of 2005, on loss of human lives; infrastructure damage; levee damage;
hazardous/non-hazardous debris impact; coastal erosion and damage
demonstrated a quick and immediate response imagery and geospatial
data requirement need.
Within hours after Katrina/Rita had passed first responders and
search & rescue personnel required immediate Katrina/Rita event
imagery/geospatial information on coordination of locating and transporting
local inhabitants to safe zones and location placement of law enforcement
personnel in securing designated commercial and residential areas.
In addition, hurricanes Katrina/Rita tremendous affect on infrastructure
damage, levee damage, hazardous/non-hazardous debris impact, coastal
erosion and damage also required immediate assessments, surveys
and coordination for rapid post event imagery.
Quick response imagery for support of domestic emergency response
and natural resource survey activities can be obtain by UAV platform
imagery assets. Also UAV platform imagery data can be useful to
coordinate and plan conventional damage (blue roof assessments)
and other planned recovery orthoimagery coverage overflights.
The 2 day UAV workshop will be comprised of selected presentations,
demonstrations, panel sessions, and exhibits/displays. There is
no registration fee required for the workshop but registration for
the workshop is necessary to coordinate support requirements for
the workshop. Workshop website: rac.louisiana.edu
