The Louisiana Coordinate Reference/Grid Systems: Emergency Response
workshop (LCRGS) sponsored by Louisiana GIS Council, Louisiana Department
of Transportation and Development, Louisiana Department of Environmental
Quality and USGS/Louisiana National Spatial Data Infrastructure
Partnership Office will provide a forum and opportunity for awareness,
understanding, and contribution of available federal and state coordinate
reference/grid systems for emergency response events in Louisiana.

As a result of lessons learned, loss of human lives and various types of
damages, of the historic impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in
Louisiana in August/September of 2005, demonstrated a need for quick and
easily conversant coordinate reference/grid system for search &
rescue/1st responders. The 1 day LCRGS workshop will offer awareness to
emergency responders in Louisiana through presentations and panel
discussions from federal and state agencies of the availability of several
coordinate reference/grid systems in support of emergency response events
and other coordinate reference/grid systems applications in Louisiana.

The workshop will also have presentations on status of map
projection/datum and map revision, demonstration exercises and
displays/exhibits. There is no registration fee required for the workshop
but registration for the workshop is necessary to coordinate support
requirements for the workshop.
